Late afternoon light glows through snow, ice and leaf near the Horicon Marsh. The drift of snow seems to glow from within and the deep blue shadow makes the icicles stand out, and then the eye is drawn to the red leaf. There's detail to appreciate from the brightest highlights to the deepest shadows, made possible through precise metering and exposure. But the real secret to balancing the light was using a reflector to bounce the sun back into the foreground. Then I let the image develop with gentle strokes in the digital darkroom.
