New techniques and software keep providing new opportunities to get the best out of the same file, and that's one thing I love about digital photography. So many people think photography ends at capture, that what you get is what you have to stay with. For me, as it was for Ansel Adams, the joy of photography is discovering better ways to transform the same negative, in this case digital, into something even more stunning than it was before. The negative is only an idea to which we apply instructions to achieve the ultimate vision. For now, this is a better representation of what I saw than the original image I had posted, with deep draws of shadows with a little light brushed over, and a softer light yet more textured geology.
